Jander - Character Design
Please, welcome the best confectioner in the area!
Being the best confectioner doesn't mean being fail-proof! :D
First explorations, trying to figure Jander out. I wanted him to be a "larger than life" kind of figure, but cute and sweet at the same time. I wasn't sure if he'd be a bear or a lion, but I really liked the abstract possibilities exploring the mane.
Further explorations of Jander. I have tried to play a lot with his mane shape, I ended up choosing the spikier one. Why? Jander makes delicious sweets, yet he's the culprit behind the wave of cavities in his child clients. An ambiguous character indeed!
I start all my drawings in my sketchbook! Here are some of the roughs for the poses and expressions of Jander. It helps me to just spit out my ideas on paper without any commitment and pressure to be successful: that way, I can always break the ice!

Jander is a character for my "Sweet Tooth" project. He is a very skilled confectioner that enjoys experimenting new recipes in his kitchen: the best sweets that come out of those experiments can be bought at his bakery. Children and adults from all parts of his neighbourhood are his faithful clients that are always curious to know what Jander will come up next! :)
